Hi! Welcome to Momentum!
My name is Katie and I started this blog at the encouragement of my friends, family, and coworkers as a means of sharing my knowledge of fitness and health.
I am a clinical exercise physiologist in the Maryland region and have worked in a number of different areas of the health and fitness industry. Hopefully I can show you the fun of having an active lifestyle (living a life in motion!), as well as entertain you a little bit with the happenings of my day to day life. Hope you enjoy! 🙂
A little life story:
I grew up in the Annapolis, MD area and considered myself a dancer and swimmer for most of my life. I did ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, you name it!…and then swam with a summer swim team from age 6 til 18. Dance Team in high school brought me to Dance Team in college at Elon University, where I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science.
Being that dance was considered a varsity sport at Elon, I suddenly found myself in the athletes’ weight room doing plyometrics and power cleans with a Strength and Conditioning coach. Whaaat?? However, these years in the weight room lead to a love for exercise, weight lifting, and the science behind it. With the encouragement of my weight coach, I became a certified personal trainer and certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
After graduating, I moved to Charlotte and earned my Master’s degree in Clinical Exercise Physiology from UNC-Charlotte and learned so much more about exercise than I ever thought possible. I found my niche in clinical exercise physiology, training people with chronic health problems, injuries, and chronic disease. I will be forever grateful for every coworker, professor, classmate, client, and patient I had in the beautiful Queen City. I learned so much from each of these people; there’s too many to name.
THEN, I married my best friend. Adam and I had been dating for almost 8 years when we decided to tie the knot in August 2010.
We now live in Annapolis with our adorable, yet mischievous, puppy – Finn!
I continue to work as an exercise physiologist in the Maryland area. My current exercise habits include CrossFit, running, triathlons, yoga, hiking…pretty much anything active and outdoors!
